Boulders Beach Penguins • 12 x 12

This week’s painting features the penguins of Cape Town, South Africa - I have been lucky enough to visit them twice now, and I am always struck by how out of place they seem. Since we usually associate penguins with ice and snow, watching them waddle around a sun-drenched beach feels like a charming little glitch in nature. These penguins live in a beautiful spot called Simon’s Town at Boulders Beach. It is named for the massive granite boulders that jut out along the coastline, which created such a fun and unique landscape to capture on canvas.
