This book is a landmark 2026 biography written by acclaimed Welsh LGBTQ+ historian Norena Shopland. Katherine Philips was one of the most culturally significant yet frequently obscured figures of early modern literature, she had many accolades – someone who broke the rules of poetry; one of the first notable female poets in the world; one of the first to write of same-sex attraction. The author specialises in diverse history. In 2021 the Welsh Government commissioned Norena Shopland to deliver LGBTQ+ training to local Welsh libraries, museums, which developed into the Welsh County LGBTQ+ Timeline Collection, with Wales being the only country in the world to have this kind of detailed local history. Norena Shopland has a monthly column for Nation.Cymru on Welsh history.
