Queensland Sapphire, 1.38ct, Pear, Blue

Deep blue runs through this Rubyvale pear, but the centre is where it comes alive — a band of electric teal-blue scintillation lighting up against the darker, near-navy body at the wings and point. Tilt it and a cooler blue-green flash surfaces along one shoulder, a petrol undertone characteristic of the Central Queensland fields. Cindy Kelly's precision faceting keeps the light moving briskly through the stone rather than pooling dark, which deeper Australian blues can do when cut for weight. It's an untreated Queensland sapphire, never heated, from the Rubyvale fields — colour and provenance both entirely natural.
