Vintage Sosaku Kokeshi Doll by Master Kano Chiyomatsu This striking vintage Sosaku (creative) kokeshi doll is a beautiful piece of Japanese folk art crafted by the highly celebrated master artisan Kano Chiyomatsu (1935–2000s). Born in the Gunma prefecture, Chiyomatsu began his craft in 1953 and grew to become one of Japan's most decorated kokeshi masters, notably winning the prestigious Prime Minister's Award twice. Visual & Structural Design Form & Geometry: The doll features a highly stylized, three-dimensional structure that sets it apart from traditional cylindrical kokeshi. It consists of a large spherical head partially enveloped by an organic, cowl-like wooden hood . Two small, playful wooden spheres extend outwards, serving as abstract representations of hair buns or floral accents. She as received a restoration, she had a big crack on the back off the head that as been restored by a woodworker. She also as a realy tin crack just above the pigtail.
