SIArb Annual Debate 2026

Join us, on 20 May 2026, Wednesday, for an evening of lively discussions and networking at the flagship event of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators Young Practitioners Network (SIArb YPN) – the Annual Debate. Following the success of last year’s event, the YPN returns this year with another hot topic for debate. It has become almost a tradition for the cross examination of any expert to commence with a challenge to his/her independence. As geopolitical tensions rise, it is increasingly common to see parties appointing experts based on nationality or apparent political leanings, further fuelling the allegations of bias. Do the various mechanisms offered arbitral rules address such issues? Does national law contain adequate guardrails to prevent expert evidence from being used in an abusive manner? Or are experts permitted to become overpaid storytellers? With a speaking panel comprised of leading young practitioners and judging panel of seasoned practitioners, the debate promises to be thought-provoking, thrilling and fun.
