Shafts of Light: 5 O'Clock Shadow

Oil on canvas, 16" h by 20" w by .5" d I was inspired by the light and shadow on pedestrians as they were going home after work. As they were descending the stairs of the Davis Street Metra Platform, I was taken by the abstract shapes of their bodies and how they contrasted with their shadows on the wall. I blurred the edges to suggest movement and bodies are not static. I chose to paint them loosely in complementary colors: Yellow/Violet and Orange/Blue.
