Peritas was a gift from Alexander' s uncle, the Molossian King of Epirus, and served as Alexander's brave and loyal companion in the Macedonian campaigns across Asia. Peritas defeated a Lion in one-on-one combat and assisted Alexander in killing an elephant as well. The fierce loyalty of Peritas even saved Alexander’s life during an enemy ambush in which they were surrounded. Like most legendary tales of heroic hounds, Peritas met his glorious end fighting side by side with his master in battle.
