Botanical Name: Zinnia elegans Lifecycle: Annual Heritage: USA, circa 1928 ‘Cactus Flowered Mix’ Zinnia offers large shaggy flowers with twisted petals in beautiful colours of salmon, reds, pinks, and purples. Many of their petals roll under and twist to create their striking appearance, offering a beautiful mass of eye-catching colour in your garden. They provide wonderful blooms from summer to autumn and are perfect for cut flowers. Attractive to bees and butterflies so they’re excellent for pollinator plantings. Zinnias are easy to grow annuals preferring warm weather and full sun. It thrives in bright, sunny spots. SOWING: Spring - Early Summer Direct, or Transplant Zinnia seeds are best sown in spring to early autumn. Seeds can be sown in trays for transplanting, or directly in place approx. 10 – 20 cm apart when soil temperatures are between 18°c – 25°c. 18°c - 25°c 7 - 14 days Transplant seedlings, or thin directly sown seeds to a final spacing of approx. 20cm apart once plants have some true leaves. 20cm - 30cm 60 - 80 days Tender TIPS: Don’t allow tray grown plants to become root bound and avoid disturbing roots. Properly spacing zinnias is essential whether sowing direct or transplanting, as overcrowding increases the chance of disease significantly.
