Intermediate Wheel Class w/ Amy Henson<br>Fridays, August 14th – September 18th, 2026, 6:00- 9:00PM

This course will expand upon your previous experience with wheel throwing. Students will have opportunity to create forms that are both functional and sculptural. Led by Amy Henson, thisis designed for students who are comfortable centering and pulling walls and are ready to expand their technical range and formal vocabulary. The class will focus on developing more complex forms and refining control on the wheel through a series of demonstrations and guided class time. Students will explore a range of functional and sculptural forms, including vases, pitchers, lidded jars, and double-walled vessels. Instruction will emphasize key techniques such as throwing off the hump for efficiency and consistency, constructing and fitting lids, and managing form and volume for more advanced vessels. Attention will also be given to proportion, timing, and intentional shaping to support stronger, more resolved work. Through demos and individualized feedback, participants will advance their forms while also strengthening their overall throwing practice. This course is ideal for those looking to push beyond foundational skills and develop a more versatile and thoughtful approach to the wheel. Note that the studio provides clay for the class; students are expected to bring their own throwing tools. Basic tool kits and commercial clay are also available at the studio for students who wish to purchase these things there.
