Once upon a time, in Christmas Land, under the setting Moon, sat a Sad Toadstool. Next to him, the Sun shone, but it also looked gloomy. "I don't like holidays," sighed the Toadstool. "No one needs a mushroom like me." "And I," added the Sun, "don't shine as brightly in December, so I feel useless." Suddenly, a Dog on a sled came down the hill so fast that he plunged into a snowdrift, with only his tail sticking out! The Toadstool snorted with laughter. "Holidays are for laughing, even when things go wrong!" barked the Dog. Behind him ran a Dachshund carrying gifts, who tripped over the sled and got tangled in his own bow – he looked like a walking present! Kittens in sweaters squealed with laughter. One was doing a somersault, another was dragging a wreath bigger than himself, and the third was nibbling gingerbread cookies along the way. Then a car with a Christmas tree on the roof drove by, and the kittens jumped onto the roof and started singing carols. The Sun smiled wider, and the Toadstool jumped for joy. Next to them, a Skater zipped down the snowy slope, doing funny pirouettes and falling into soft snowdrifts. Behind her, a Skier glided, shooting snowballs, and a Snowboarder kept falling over, causing gales of laughter. Finally, a Hen and a Rooster ran out of a chicken coop, leading a procession with the Pierogi King, who smelled of holidays. Holidays are not a time of joy for everyone – sometimes someone feels as lonely as the Toadstool. That's why it's worth looking around, lending a hand, smiling, being there. Because the greatest gift we can give others is our kindness and presence. The Toadstool looked around and smiled. "You're right! Holidays are most beautiful when everyone is together!"
