Blackspot Shark Jaw ex Dr. Gordon Hubbell
NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING This jaw is from the collection of Dr. Gordon Hubbell. He first taught me how to prepare jaws in the early 1990's. I've been fortunate enough to acquire some of his collection that is not going to the University of Florida. Most of these jaws and teeth on this site have been either on display or stored away for decades in Gordon's collection. A blackspot shark jaw, from a small, slender requiem shark found in the tropical Indo-West Pacific, growing to about 37" in length. It gets its name from the dark smudge on the tip of its second dorsal fin. The upper teeth are serrated with slanted points, while the lower teeth are smoother, built for catching small fish, crustaceans, and squid. A lesser known species, this jaw is a nice find for collectors looking for something outside the usual lineup.
