Tough western U.S. native that thrives in hot, dry locations. Even heavy clay! Blooms midsummer with ebullient orange blossoms resembling minature hollyhocks. Water regularly the first season to help establish a deep root system. Appreciates a gravel mulch. Leave foliage as overwintering protection for the crown, then cut back in spring.
