Wood-fired cooking workshop
Join Dan at Makers Barn, spend the day outside, learning how to cook over wood & fire. We start the day by getting the fire lit and making a nice cup of tea (first things first). You will then spend the rest of the day learning about everything the flames have to teach including managing your fire, wood types and how to get the best results from wood fired cookery, plus a whole lot more. We will prepare a Sussex venison shoulder to slow cook with some foraged herbs and berries. While that's ticking over we will discuss the principles of cooking over fire then show you how to cook various seasonal vegetables and how to cook fish on a wooden plank. We will then use what we have prepared to all enjoy an early dinner and talk about what we’ve done. What's included: • Tea on arrival plus early dinner of what we have all prepared • Learn how to build, light and manage a fire • Prepare a venison shoulder for slow cooking • Learn how to cook fish on a cedar plank • Learn about seasonal ingredients and cook them for yourself • Hands on learning • The use of our wood fired cooking equipment The day starts at 9am and finishes at 4pm. This one-day course should give you the confidence to get you going on your own journey of wood fired cooking. There will be a maximum of 10 on the course, and unfortunately it is not recommended for people with specific allergy and dietary requirements. Upon booking you will receive an email of confirmation along with all the relevant information regarding the day i.e. what to wear, bring etc. Dan looks forward to introducing you to the ways of the fire.
