A remarkable large-scale plaster relief sculpture cast after the marble reliefs Luca della Robbia carved for the Cantoria Frieze of Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence in 1431–1438 titled "Trumpeters and Dancing Children". The piece depicts an ornate composition of musicians raising long trumpets skyward while children in flowing tunics below join hands in dance. The composition is rendered in an animated classical style above a lower flowing gadrooned border. The surface is finished in cast white plaster on a hollow-backed panel reinforced with wood braces and a wire hanger. The surface shows authentic weathered patina enhancing the old-world character of the piece. Crafted in a grand Italian Florentine Renaissance style, the piece is very heavy and well-suited for use as a statement wall decoration, in a garden, or accent decor piece in a variety of interiors. From an estate in San Francisco, CA. Dimensions: 38.25"w x 6"d x 41.5"h Circa: 20th Century, Italy Materials: Plaster, Wire, Wood Condition: Distressed, minor wear consistent with age and use. Beautifully crafted with solid construction. Good condition with age-appropriate wear, including losses, scattered chips, cracks, nicks, and toning to finish as seen in photos.
