Wellington Chintz floral coasters
Inspired by the stunning triangle patchwork frame quilt, an impressive example of vibrantly coloured printed cotton patchwork with a beautiful quilting design. The central block-printed commemorative panel celebrates the Duke of Wellington’s victory at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, and is one of several designs that were popular in the 1810s and 20s. There are 844 triangles in this piece, which showcase 252 different fabrics, dating from the 1820s and 1830s. In the centre of the quilt, the intricate framed hand-quilted design reveals a quilted date of 1834, which is hard to see from the front and only becomes apparent when you examine the plain Irish linen backing fabric. These coasters with a detailed close up of the central block-printed panel can be purchased individually at £5, or as a set of 4 for £16.
