During the Second World War, enormous stone ÉIRE markings were placed along Ireland’s coastline to identify neutral Irish territory to aircraft passing overhead. Photographed at Glengad Head, County Donegal, in 2015, this surviving landmark offers a striking reminder of Ireland’s wartime history and the coastal communities that watched over its shores.
