Sanguisorba 'Red Thunder'

Sanguisorba 'Red Thunder' (Burnet) Sanguisorba 'Red Thunder' is a bold and dramatic burnet that delivers a powerful late-summer display. It produces attractive mounds of blue-green pinnate foliage from which tall, upright stems rise to carry deep crimson-red, bottlebrush-shaped flowerheads from midsummer through to autumn. A superb plant for pollinators, it is particularly attractive to bees and butterflies. With its intense flower colour and strong upright habit, 'Red Thunder' makes a striking statement in naturalistic, prairie, and cottage-style plantings. It combines beautifully with grasses, Echinacea, Achillea, and Persicaria, and works well in the middle to back of a border where its height and colour can be fully appreciated. The flowerheads remain attractive as they fade and dry, extending the display well into autumn.
