Fontinette 2021 / 2022
Fontinette is undoubtedly the cuvée where Flavien Nowack is least trying to demonstrate a spectacular terroir. The clay-limestone sand over marl, the old vines planted in 1965, and the blend of the 2021 and 2022 harvests combine to create a wine of remarkable serenity. Here, no component dominates the other. Everything seems to naturally find its place. The Pinot Meunier gains in depth without losing its energy. The aging in small barrels delicately accompanies this material, while the very light dosage and the cork closure with grape must prolong this search for balance without ever altering its perception. When tasted, Fontinette impresses with its mouthfeel. The texture is silky, the bubbles perfectly integrated, and the delicate bitterness supports a long, saline, and highly precise finish. More than a champagne of contrast, it is a champagne of harmony. In Flavien Nowack's interpretation of the Vandières vineyard, Fontinette occupies a unique place. Neither the verticality of Terres Bleues nor the depth of the lower slopes. It embodies that point of balance where the landscape seems to reach its full maturity.
