Philodendron 'White Princess' Galaxy Tricolor Looking for Philodendron 'White Princess' Galaxy Tricolor? This is a rare plant twice over, and it is worth understanding why, because the two rarities are what set it apart from a standard White Princess. The first is the variegation style. Most variegated Philodendron, the classic White Princess included, express sectoral variegation, clean blocks and sectors of white against green. This one is different. Galaxy variegation scatters fine flecking and speckling across the leaf like stars across a night sky, rather than splitting it into solid sections. It is a rarer and less predictable way for a plant to variegate, and it gives the leaf a wholly different character: dappled and dusted rather than blocked. The second is the colour. This is a tricolor, so alongside the white and green it carries a third tone, the soft pink flush that a true tricolor White Princess is prized for. Galaxy patterning is uncommon on its own. Tricolor expression is uncommon on its own. Finding both on the same plant is the double rarity that makes this one a genuine collector's piece. Because the variegation is chimeric, no two leaves express alike, and neither the galaxy flecking nor the pink can be guaranteed to come through identically on every new leaf. That unpredictability is exactly what collectors chase. In cultivation 'White Princess' is a self-heading climber and more forgiving than the jewel Alocasia many collectors know, but the variegated and pink tissue carries reduced chlorophyll, so bright, indirect light is important, both to keep the plant vigorous and to hold all three colours. Too little light and the pink fades first. Keep humidity up and water once the top of the substrate begins to dry. We grow ours in our own pon mix, blended from components in our Soil Ninja range. Variegation: galaxy style, fine starry flecking rather than solid sectors Colour: tricolor, white, green and a soft pink flush Rarity: galaxy patterning and tricolor expression together, a double rarity Light: bright, indirect light to hold all three colours, pink fades first in low light Humidity: high, thrives at 60% and above Growth habit: self-heading climbing Philodendron Note: chimeric, so no two leaves alike and expression is not guaranteed on every leaf A genuine double-rarity for the serious collection.
