In its granular 3–6mm form it's a brilliant soil conditioner, soaking up water and nutrients then releasing them steadily to the roots while keeping your mix open and free-draining. Use it on its own as a semi-hydro medium, or blend it through potting, bonsai and succulent mixes to improve aeration and drainage.
