Drake’s Plantation Bitters Bottle A highly decorative amber glass Drake’s Plantation Bitters bottle dating to the nineteenth century, retaining excellent color and strong embossed lettering throughout. This iconic figural bitters bottle is embossed “Drake’s 1860 Plantation Bitters” and was produced in the distinctive cabin-shaped form that has made these bottles highly sought after among collectors of antique glass and Civil War-era medicinal advertising. This example is the desirable 6-log variation. The bottle displays beautifully with deep amber coloration and crisp molded detail to the ribbed body, paneled sides, and pitched roof-form top. The embossed lettering remains bold and easily readable on both sides. The mouth and lip remain intact, and the bottle presents extremely well overall with attractive natural age character. Originally marketed as a medicinal bitters during the Civil War era, Drake’s Plantation Bitters became one of the most recognizable proprietary medicine bottles of the nineteenth century due to its unusual architectural design meant to resemble a log cabin. Today, these bottles remain favorites among collectors of antique medicines, Americana, and early glass. A fine display example with strong eye appeal and classic Civil War-period character.
