2024 Polperro Mill Hill Chardonnay Mornington Peninsula – Polperro grow, make and farm their vineyards using a philosophy of sustainability and regenerative agriculture, applying a mix of biological, biodynamic and organic practices. The Mill Hill vineyard is in Red Hill, the highest and one of the more exposed sites in the region, with a north-facing slope with vine rows running due north. This ensures a long ripening period giving high levels of natural acidity which persist through to the wine. Medium bodied and tightly focused, the palate delivers a concentrated core of citrus and white stone fruit framed by bright acidity and fine mineral tension. A creamy, gently nutty texture from lees work provides richness through the mid palate, while restrained oak sits seamlessly beneath the fruit. Notes of lemon curd, grapefruit pith and wet stone build in intensity before a long, precise finish marked by chalky minerality and lingering citrus freshness.
