PATRICK SAVILE - 'IMAGES FLOAT IN ON THE BREEZE' S/S TEE

イングランド南西部、ウェストカントリー出身。ロンドンを拠点に20年間活動したのち、現在はドイツ・バイエルン在住。アーティスト／アートディレクターとして活動し、adidasにてOriginals Brand Creativeのシニアデザイナーを務める。ヒューマンエラー、先史時代、オカルト、岩石、そして経済・生態・欲望・文化が絡み合う網の目——そうした事象から着想を得た作品を制作している。台風の衛星写真、渦を巻く等圧線、遠近法の教本に描かれた目、涌き上がる積乱雲、そして風に運ばれる蝶。博物図鑑や気象図から採取された図像がトーテムのように並び、古いオカルト誌のポスターめいた静かな熱を放つ。本人が「視覚のサンプリング」と呼ぶ手法は、今季、大気そのものを素材にした。手描きの吹き出しにはこうある――WHAT IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT !A typhoon seen from a satellite, spiralling isobars, an eye from a perspective manual, a rising thunderhead, a butterfly carried on the wind. Images gathered from field guides and weather charts stack up like a totem, glowing with the quiet heat of an old occult poster. Savile calls his method visual sampling; this season, the atmosphere itself is the source material.
