'Mapa de la zona vinícola Rioja—Map of the wine-growing area' Published in Bodegas Montecillo’s centenary year, this bilingual promotional map turns Rioja’s wine geography into an exuberant export advertisement. Colour coding separates Rioja Alta, Rioja Baja and Rioja Alavesa, while barrel symbols identify cellars ageing wines for export. The Ebro, roads, railways and towns are enlivened by churches, monasteries, provincial arms, traditional figures, wildlife and a compass fashioned from a barrel head. Founded at Fuenmayor in 1870, Montecillo was still controlled by the Navajas family when the map appeared, three years before its transfer to Osborne. Its English title and legend reveal the international audience at which it was aimed.
