Released in Japan in 1986, the Nintendo Famicom Disk System is an official peripheral for the Family Computer that introduced floppy disk-based gaming to the platform. Developed to expand beyond cartridge limitations, the add-on or accessory uses proprietary “Disk Cards” to deliver larger games, save functionality, and enhanced audio capabilities. Connected via the Famicom’s expansion port, it allowed players to access a new library of titles, including early entries in major franchises.
