5-Day Photography Workshop in Torridon Join me for an unforgettable five-day photography workshop in the breathtaking Scottish Highlands. We’ll be based in a lovely self-catering cottage in Inveralligin, just a few minutes’ drive from Torridon Village. This is the absolute perfect base to photograph the imposing mountain backdrops, wild glens, and dramatic coastlines of this world-class destination. Why Torridon? Torridon is a legendary location in the North West Highlands of Scotland, boasting some of the most impressive, rugged scenery and giant mountains you will find anywhere in the UK. Having visited this area many times over the years, I have spent a lot of time exploring high up in these hills. For this workshop, however, we will be focusing on lower-level locations that still offer jaw-dropping views of the peaks without requiring extreme mountaineering. Our Photographic Journey Easy-Access & Elevated Locations: While many of our locations are close to the road, Torridon truly rewards a bit of elevation. This workshop is rated medium difficulty because we will include some short, steady ascents to reach the best vantage points. Diverse Landscapes: We’ll visit a fantastic variety of locations chosen for their dramatic composition options, including: Loch Clair: A stunning, classic loch with gorgeous Scots pine trees lining the shores, offering iconic views across to the mighty peaks of Liathach and Beinn Eighe. Loch Bharranch: Just down the road lies another beautiful, lesser-visited loch offering similar mountain views but with excellent opportunities for pristine water reflections. Diabeg: A remote coastal village at the end of a spectacularly wild, winding road, featuring a dramatic coastline and an amazing abandoned shipwreck resting in the loch. Bealach Na Gaoithe: Mind-blowing mountain views with only a 10-minute walk. Torridonian sandstone boulders are scattered above dozens of small lochans, looking directly over towards the Coulin Hills. Annat: A fantastic, easily accessible viewpoint above the shoreline looking straight down the glen toward the imposing ridge of Liathach. Loch Maree: Another classic, sweeping lochside viewpoint with dramatic views towards the fortress-like mountain of Slioch. Russell Burn: A beautiful, cascading waterfall that tumbles down the hillside right at the start of the famous Bealach na Bà pass. Red Roof Cottage: A wonderfully photogenic, lonely little cottage near Shieldaig with classic views stretching back up into Glen Torridon. Exploration: If the weather gods are on our side and we cross off our main locations early, we will head off the beaten track to explore a few more secret viewpoints. Why March? This workshop is intentionally scheduled for mid-March for several key reasons: More sociable sunrise/sunset times: No need for exhausting 3 AM wake-up calls. In mid-March, sunrise is around 06:40 and sunset is around 18:30, meaning we can shoot both golden hours comfortably. Fewer tourists: We will have these grand landscapes largely to ourselves, without the peak-season crowds. Possible snow-capped peaks: March frequently brings a fresh dusting of snow to the high summits, creating a spectacular contrast against the dark ancient sandstone below. No midges!: You can stand by the lochs and compose your shots in complete peace. Workshop Structure & Flexibility This workshop is flexible and relaxed, designed entirely around maximizing our shooting opportunities based on the Scottish weather. Our primary focus will be golden hour photography, heading out for sunrise and sunset, with extra stops added spontaneously as the light changes. During the middle of the day, we’ll have plenty of time for dedicated post-processing sessions, image reviews, and lunch breaks back at our comfortable cottage. Weather Contingency: If conditions turn moody, we adapt. Torridon looks incredible in dramatic weather. If the summits are covered by clouds, we will pivot to shooting the roaring waterfalls, ancient pine forests, and atmospheric river beds right within Glen Torridon. I’ll provide a nightly briefing with the next day’s plan based on the latest weather routing. I’ll guide you through my personal workflow and techniques, demonstrating composition, focusing, tripod use, filter techniques, exposure blending, and working with light. We’ll also cover advanced techniques as the week progresses. Accommodation & Meals Ben View Cottage: We’ll be staying at Ben View, a beautiful, high-standard self-catering cottage in Inveralligin. The property features 1 king, 2 double, and 2 twin bedrooms. Every single participant gets a private room. To keep things completely fair, specific rooms are handed out on a first-booked basis. Flexible Dining: The self-catering setup gives us total freedom so we never have to cut a shoot short to make a dinner reservation. Because Torridon is beautifully remote, we will coordinate a supermarket stop on the first day so everyone can stock up on supplies. You can cook your own meals, team up with others, or enjoy food at local spots.in Torridon. Final Night: We typically celebrate our final night together with a group meal out at a local restaurant. Transport & Travel Complimentary transport during the workshop is fully provided in my vehicle, so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery between locations. Public Transport: If you are arriving via public transport, the closest train station is Achnasheen Station (about 15 miles away), or you can catch a bus from Inverness. If you are planning to travel via public transport and need a pickup from Achnasheen, please contact me well in advance so we can ensure the timings are fully feasible. Booking Details A £400 non-refundable deposit secures your place. The remaining balance is due 8 weeks before the workshop starts. Payment options, including full or balance payments via credit card, Klarna, or PayPal Credit, are available directly on the website. Upon booking, you’ll receive a comprehensive confirmation email containing a detailed kit list, exclusive discount codes, exact meeting details, and a pre-workshop questionnaire to help me tailor the tuition to your skill level. The workshop concludes on Friday at 10:00 AM, allowing us to catch one final sunrise session together before we depart. Ready to immerse yourself in the wild beauty of the Scottish Highland
