Bean Dwarf ‘Golden Cherokee Wax’

Botanical Name: Phaseolus vulgaris Lifecycle: Annual Heritage: USA, commercially available since 1947 ‘Golden Cherokee Wax’ is a popular dwarf Bean with superb buttery flavour. It is an abundant producer of long golden yellow stringless pods. Best eaten fresh, however it can also be used as a dry bean with its black shiny beans. It has fantastic adaptability and good disease resistance. Easy to grow and quick to produce in warm weather. It only grows to approx. 50cm high and doesn't require staking for support. Plant out seedlings protected from wind after the danger of frosts have passed. Repeat sowing in January/February for an autumn crop. SOWING: Spring - Summer Direct, or Transplant Bean seeds are best sown in spring through summer. Seeds can be sown in trays for transplanting, or directly in place approx. 10 – 15cm apart when soil temperatures are between 18°c – 25°c. 18°c - 25°c 7 - 10 days Transplant tray grown seedlings with care once seedlings have some true leaves to a sunny and well-drained position approx. 10cm - 15cm apart. 10cm - 15cm 55 - 80 days Tender TIPS: These plants are low maintenance and productive. Easy to grow from seed making it perfect for beginners. Grows best in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Mulch and water well during hot and dry weather. Once it starts producing pick regularly to prolong flowering and your harvests. Repeat sowings every few weeks over spring and summer to provide yourself with a continuous supply.
