Parwana Brass Ashtray

In Urdu poetry, the parwana doesn’t fear the flame, it is completed by it. I named this piece after that idea. An ashtray holds what fire leaves behind, and it should be worthy of that. The form comes from two places: a butterfly’s open wings and the scalloped edge of a sea shell. Hand-cast in brass in our Lahore workshop, poured in a single mold, the wings, the handles, the body come out as one continuous piece. Nothing welded, nothing joined after. Use it for ash, for rings, for a moment of stillness on a cluttered surface. It will outlast everything around it. Dimensions: 8x7 inches
