Kintsugi Workshop – Introduction with Tomoko Sato from Atelier Circolo
Give new life to broken ceramics through kintsugi, a traditional Japanese technique that consists of repairing cracks by enhancing them with lacquer and metallic powder. Led by an expert Japanese teacher, this workshop is an immersion in Japanese culture, combining artisanal skill and aesthetic approach. Kintsugi does not seek to conceal the traces of an object but to integrate them as part of its history, giving them a new presence. Designed as a calm and focused moment, this workshop allows participants to discover an accessible practice while exploring a Japanese vision of time, objects, and their transformation. Date and practical information Saturday, May 16th at 12:00 PM Duration: approximately 75 minutes Number of participants: 6 people maximum Language: workshop led in French (interpreter present) Workshop outline Introduction to kintsugi culture, followed by guided practice: assembly, application of natural lacquer, and finishing with metallic powder (brass or tin). The technique allows for complete completion in one session, using materials compliant with food hygiene standards. Your piece Ceramics and tools are provided. You leave with your restored piece. A resting period of a few weeks is recommended to allow the lacquer to stabilize.
