Almirante Brown 2021 Anniversary Shirt
CLUB ALMIRANTE BROWN - ANNIVERSARY SHIRT 2021 Club Almirante Brown are an Argentine football club based in Isidro Casanova, in the La Matanza district on the western edge of Greater Buenos Aires. Officially refounded in 1922, the club takes its name from Admiral Guillermo Brown - the Irish-born sailor regarded as the father of the Argentine Navy. Known as La Fragata ("The Frigate") and El Aurinegro ("The Black and Gold"), they play their home games at the Estadio Fragata Presidente Sarmiento, a 25,000-capacity ground that even has a cannon donated by the Argentine Navy in tribute to the club's namesake. The 2021 season, in which this commemorative anniversary shirt was worn, marked 164 years since the death of Admiral Brown himself - the reason the kit exists, with its retro nod to the colours and crest of the club's earliest days. On the pitch, Almirante Brown were competing in the Primera Nacional, the second tier of Argentine football. Jorge Benítez began the campaign as manager but stepped down in April, and Fabián Nardozza took over to oversee a strong run in Group A. In a thirty-two-game Group A campaign Almirante Brown finished third, winning 17, drawing 8 and losing 7, a tally good enough to book a place in the Reducido playoffs for the second promotion spot. La Fragata were ultimately knocked out at the semi-final stage, where they were beaten by Barracas Central - the club that went on to win the second promotion to the Argentine top flight. With the Admiral's anniversary celebrated on their chest, it was a season that came tantalisingly close to a first-ever promotion to the Primera División for the modest Casanova outfit.
