Shucheng Orchid Green
Tea: Shucheng Orchid Green( 舒城小兰花) Type: Green Tea Harvest: Late April, 2026 Area: Anhui, Shucheng City, Baisangyuan Village Producer: Wanxiang Tea Company - Wang Family Tasting Notes: Peas, Crisp, Tender, Floral, Orchid. This is in price and pick the finest of our Guyu line-up this year. This tea has been made from some of the highest, most heirloom bushes in Shucheng's oldest growing area. Although far less famous than Huangshan's Maofeng or Lu'an's Guapian, Shucheng's Xiaolanhua (Little Orchid) has an equally interesting background. It was in Shucheng that Mao made the famous 1958 directive to "open up more tea gardens." Over the next two decades, entire mountains there would be converted to tea production; today, a giant monument of the tea cup that the Great Helmsman drank from on his 1958 tour adorns the most visited of these tea fields. The tea he drank, however, was not from this most famous tourist destination, but from the older tea gardens in Baisangyuan. From this same source, we have drawn this tea. It has a tender, delicate, waxy florality similar to Anji Baicha, while still offering the more robust, roasty aroma more associated with a traditional wok-fried Maofeng or Guapian. It is a very happy compromise. Shaken over coals slowly, the unique processing style of this tea occasionally produces a blister, but also locks in a vibrant, fresh appearance, as if it were still alive on the bush. The naturally heterogeneous color of the heirloom bushes is still very much visible: a bouquet of greenish, yellowish, reddish leaves will brighten up whatever vessel you enjoy this tea in. Drink this tea grandpa style in a glass tumbler or glass Gongdaobei for the most enjoyable visual and aromatic experience.
