Twizzler Zoanthids are a brightly patterned Zoanthus sp. known for their candy-like contrast and strong garden potential. This aquacultured morph typically shows a purple to magenta center with distinct red ring patterning and a brighter skirt, giving the colony the sharp, high-contrast look that made the strain name stick. Grown on site at New Dawn Aquaculture, these frags are already adapted to captive reef conditions and selected for clean, healthy growth. For all Zoanthid frags, we guarantee at least 3 polyps on a frag plug. Why Reefkeepers Like Twizzler Zoanthids Twizzler Zoanthids are popular because they bring a lot of visual impact without demanding specialized care. Once settled, they can multiply steadily and are well suited to mixed reefs, dedicated zoa gardens, and lower-profile rock islands where their colour pattern can stand out. They are especially attractive under blue-heavy reef lighting, where the rings and skirt contrast tends to show more clearly. Care Overview Taxonomy: Zoanthus sp. Care level: Beginner to intermediate Lighting: Low to moderate, with best colour usually developing under stable, acclimated reef lighting Water flow: Moderate flow to help keep debris from settling between polyps Placement: Lower to mid rockwork, frag rack, or a dedicated zoa island Temperament: Semi-aggressive through spreading and space competition Growth habit: Encrusting colony that spreads by budding new polyps Placement and Growth Notes Twizzler Zoanthids can adapt to a fairly wide range of reef conditions, but they tend to do best when introduced low and moved only after they have opened consistently. Moderate flow is useful because it helps keep detritus and film from collecting around the mat. Like many zoanthids, this morph can spread over nearby rock once established, so placing it on its own island or an intentionally isolated section of rockwork makes long-term management easier. Feeding and System Stability These polyps are primarily photosynthetic, but stable nutrients and occasional fine particulate or live plankton feeding can support fuller extension and steady growth. At New Dawn Aquaculture, our coral systems are supported with live feeds from Planktura, which aligns well with the needs of zoanthids in established reef systems. What You Can Expect From This Frag Each frag is sold for colour, pattern, and healthy growth potential rather than for an oversized one-off colony. Because zoanthids are living animals, exact skirt length, disc size, and visible colour intensity can shift slightly depending on your lighting spectrum, nutrient levels, and placement. Given stable reef parameters, Twizzler Zoanthids are a rewarding choice for hobbyists looking to build out a colourful zoa section with a named morph that stays visually distinct.
