Guido Gambone Figural Vase with Animals, Italy, 1955

Guido Gambone Figural Vase with Animals, Italy, 1955 Glazed stoneware vase by Guido Gambone, executed in Italy in 1955. The cylindrical form features a vivid turquoise-blue glaze with two stylized, elongated animals rendered in cream, aubergine, and olive-green tones, surrounded by abstract vegetation suggestive of cacti. The animated figures, with their exaggerated proportions and expressive features, reflect Gambone’s playful, almost mythological approach to figuration. The richly textured glaze and irregular contours lend the work a distinctly painterly quality. Dimensions: 8¾ H × 4¼ W × 4½ D inches (22 × 11 × 11 cm) Signature: Glazed signature and donkey mark to underside, “Gambone Italy.” Condition: Very good vintage condition. A couple of minor grinding flecks to the lower edge and one minute glaze pop near the rim.
