Best Fabrics for BestWhite™ Screen Printing Ink BestWhite™ is specially recommended for: 100% cotton T-shirts and apparel 50/50 cotton/polyester blends Cotton-rich polyester blends Hoodies, sweatshirts, and other printable cotton garments Light and dark cotton fabrics For best results, we recommend BestWhite™ primarily for 100% cotton and 50/50 cotton/polyester garments. Although BestWhite™ offers low-bleed properties, it is not a completely non-bleeding plastisol ink. Some polyester fabrics, particularly dark or heavily dyed garments, may experience dye migration. For polyester-rich fabrics and garments prone to bleeding, we recommend our Mustang White Low-Bleed Plastisol Ink, which is specifically designed to provide greater resistance to dye migration. Always test unfamiliar fabrics before beginning a full production run. Recommended Screen Printing Mesh Count For excellent opacity and coverage, we recommend: 110 Mesh: Ideal for printing bold white designs on dark garments where a heavier ink deposit is desired. 156 Mesh: Suitable for smoother prints, moderate detail, and lighter fabric colors. Higher Mesh Counts: May be used for finer details, although additional print passes may be necessary to achieve the desired opacity. For dark cotton T-shirts, a 110 mesh screen is an excellent starting point for achieving strong white coverage. BestWhite™ Plastisol Ink Curing Instructions Proper curing is essential for achieving durable, washable prints. Recommended curing temperature: 330–350°F (166–177°C) Recommended curing time: Approximately 80 seconds at the specified ink temperature. The entire ink deposit must reach the required curing temperature for proper fusion. Conveyor dryer settings, belt speed, ink deposit thickness, and garment type can all affect actual curing conditions. Tips for Proper Plastisol Ink Curing Verify Ink Temperature: Use appropriate temperature measurement tools to confirm the ink deposit reaches the recommended curing temperature. An infrared temperature gun can provide a surface reading but may not verify the temperature throughout the ink layer. Perform a Test Print: Test one T-shirt or Pellon before beginning production. Check Ink Adhesion: After cooling, gently stretch the printed fabric to check for cracking or separation. Conduct a Wash Test: Confirm proper curing and wash durability before full production. Avoid Excessive Flashing: Overheating during flashing may cause excessive tackiness. Allow the print to cool between applications when necessary. Important: BestWhite™ is a conventional-curing plastisol ink. It should not be cured below its specified fusion temperature simply to prevent dye migration. For heat-sensitive polyester fabrics, choose a suitable low-cure, low-bleed ink instead. Tips for Preventing Dye Migration and Ink Bleeding Dye migration can occur when polyester dyes become mobile under heat and discolor the white ink, causing pink, gray, or other unwanted color changes. To minimize bleeding: Test garments for dye migration before production. Avoid unnecessary overheating during flashing. Use appropriate low-bleed inks on polyester-rich garments. Consider a low-cure plastisol ink for heat-sensitive fabrics. Verify curing temperatures and wash durability. For challenging polyester garments, Mustang White may provide better protection against dye migration than BestWhite™.
