Light the end of the bundle and fan it for a while so that the flame goes out and the bundle continues to smoulder. If the smudge is tightly bundled, blow extra to keep the herbs smouldering properly. With this smouldering bundle, perform the smudge ceremony. Make sure the fireproof bowl is kept under the smudge bundle at all times. After the end of the session or ceremony, you can extinguish the bundle again in a bowl of sand (check carefully that it is actually out) and keep the bundle for another use.
