The Contrarian 2025

XX – Anniversary edition * ‘The Contrarians’ are my indulgent, creative winemaking outlet. They are ‘Prototypes’ & help support my ideas about winemaking & future wines. In 2022 we started the process of making an Eden Valley Chardonnay from the ‘Trial Hill’ vineyard in Pewsey Vale. A large part of the process involved resurrecting three small old (1980s) vineyards to the point at which we could get a healthy crop. This has been a 4-year process and along the way we needed to start building in older barrels for the first vintage, whenever that was going to be!? Then in 2025 after we realized we were still not going to make our ‘Trial Hill’ wine we decided to source enough Chardonnay from Adelaide Hills to season one of our puncheons. We have decided to bottle & release this puncheon (50 dozen) as part of our 20th Anniversary celebration.
