Its 38mm external width and 30mm internal channel provide a wide platform for high-volume rubber. Berd reports a 14% aerodynamic improvement over its previous-generation Sparrow wheelset. The rim has been optimised around 45–55mm tyres, making it particularly well suited to modern performance gravel bikes. DYNEEMA SPOKES. A DIFFERENT KIND OF COMPLIANCE. Conventional steel spokes transmit high-frequency vibration through the wheel. Berd PolyLight spokes use ultra-high-molecular- weight polyethylene fibres, commonly known as Dyneema, to introduce viscoelastic damping. This technology dissipates vibration energy, helping to reduce the harshness transmitted through the bike. The result is a smoother ride over rough gravel, washboard surfaces and broken terrain. Each spoke weighs approximately 2.4g, contributing to the wheelset's exceptionally low overall weight. LESS VIBRATION. MORE EFFICIENCY. Berd reports a 5-watt rolling-efficiency benefit at 30km/h from its vibration-damping spokes, based on independent testing by John Karrasch. BERD TALON ESL-R HUBS At the centre of the wheelset are Berd's Talon ESL-R hubs, featuring a lightweight 36-tooth ratchet freehub and precision-machined Tri-Coat aluminium freehub body. Equal Spoke Length technology uses identical spoke lengths across both sides of both wheels, simplifying spare-spoke management and servicing.
