Vintage Mid-Century GIA 6.54 Carat Old European Cut Diamond Ring in 18K White Gold An extraordinary statement ring centered with a GIA-certified 6.54 carat true antique Old European cut diamond, graded Q–R color and VS2 clarity. The center diamond is exceptional not simply because of its impressive size, but because of its remarkable personality. Hand-cut in an era long before modern standardized cutting, it displays the broad, chunky facets, high crown and open culet that make genuine Old European diamonds so captivating. Despite its Q–R GIA color grade, this diamond faces up remarkably bright and much whiter than its laboratory grade might suggest. Its appearance changes beautifully with its surroundings: crisp and bright in natural daylight, warmer and more romantic in softer lighting, and exceptionally lively in direct sunlight. We have photographed the ring under several different lighting conditions to show the diamond as honestly as possible and to capture this wonderful transformation. One of our favorite characteristics is its pronounced kozibe effect — the enchanting optical phenomenon created when reflections of the diamond's open culet appear throughout the stone. The result is an almost kaleidoscopic pattern within the facets, a distinctive visual signature found in beautifully proportioned antique diamonds. And with a VS2 clarity grade, the 6.54 carat diamond is remarkably clean for an antique stone of this size. Nothing distracts from its broad flashes of light, fascinating facet pattern and extraordinary presence on the hand. This is not a diamond that should be judged by its color grade alone.
