It’s the small plastic piece under the front of the car that sits in the slot of the track and keeps the car aligned. The “short stem” refers to the shorter vertical shaft that connects the guide to the chassis. This suits certain older or low-clearance car models. The easiest way to determine whether your Scalextric car needs a short stem or long stem guide is to remove the existing guide blade and compare its length. How to Check Turn the car upside down. Remove the guide blade from the chassis. Measure the stem (the vertical shaft between the guide blade and the chassis). Short Stem Guide (C8145) Stem length approximately 5mm Common on many modern Scalextric cars Often fitted to cars with lower chassis clearance Long Stem Guide (C8167) Stem length approximately 8mm Found on some older models and cars with deeper guide mounts Allows the guide blade to sit correctly in the track slot when the chassis is higher Visual Check A quick test is to look at how the current guide sits: If a guide blade appears to sit deep inside the chassis, it is usually a long stem. If only a short section of stem is visible above the guide blade, it is usually a short stem. Common Rule of Thumb Most Scalextric cars manufactured from the Sport track era onwards (early 2000s to present) use Scalextric C8145 Short Stem Guides. Many older pre-Sport cars and some special models use Long Stem Guides. If You're Unsure The safest method is to: Check the car's parts diagram if available. Search for the specific car's model number (e.g. C4327, C4501, etc.). Compare the existing guide with the replacement photos. Contact us.
