The Last Light of Autumn is an atmospheric landscape painting by Carla Raads, inspired by the quiet beauty of autumn lakes and the changing light of the northern English landscape. Deep crimson, burnt sienna and smoky charcoal move through the composition, surrounding a luminous opening of soft gold and ivory. Below, the water reflects the fading light, creating a sense of depth and stillness. The landscape dissolves between land, water and sky, capturing the fleeting moment when colour and light transform the familiar into something almost otherworldly. Through expressive mark-making, layered colour and atmospheric depth, Raads explores the relationship between landscape, memory and emotion. Rather than recording a place as it appears, she seeks to capture its emotional presence: the quiet intensity of the changing seasons and the beauty found in moments of transition. Part of the Cartography collection, the painting reflects an ongoing exploration of how places become embedded in memory. Each work offers a point of geographical reference, connecting the physical landscape with the feelings and experiences it evokes. With its rich autumnal palette and luminous centre, The Last Light of Autumn brings warmth, depth and a contemplative atmosphere to a contemporary interior. It is an original work for collectors drawn to atmospheric landscape painting, expressive contemporary art and the enduring beauty of the natural world.
