Pink Glass & Brass Chandelier by Valinte, Finland, 1950s

Decorative brass and pink glass chandelier by Valinte Oy, Finland, from the 1950s. The lamp features a large shallow glass shade with an irregular, gently undulating edge and a distinctive textured pink surface. Two fine concentric lines provide a simple graphic detail across the glass. The shade is suspended from a brass structure with long ribbed decorative elements rising from its centre. Dating from the 1950s, the chandelier is distinctly mid-century in its overall form, while retaining decorative influences from the Art Deco period. The stepped ceiling canopy, ribbed vertical brass details and symmetrical ornament give the lamp a more expressive character than the increasingly restrained modernist lighting of the period. With its generous 68 cm / 26.8 in diameter, this rare chandelier has a substantial presence while retaining a relatively shallow profile. The translucent pink glass gives the light a warm, atmospheric glow, while the brass details add structure and contrast.
