Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay 2022
Produced by Leeuwin Estate in the Margaret River region of Western Australia, this wine comes from one of Australia’s iconic family owned wineries. Established in the 1970s by the Horgan family with guidance from Robert Mondavi, Leeuwin Estate has earned international acclaim for benchmark Chardonnay shaped by Margaret River’s maritime climate. Vineyards benefit from cooling Indian Ocean breezes and are planted on gravelly loam soils over clay subsoils, providing excellent drainage and even ripening. The 2022 vintage delivered excellent balance and concentration following favourable growing conditions. Made from 100% Chardonnay sourced from selected estate parcels, fermentation takes place in French oak barrels with lees stirring to enhance texture and complexity. The wine is aged for around 11 months in French oak, including a proportion of new barrels, allowing integration without overpowering the fruit. Aromas of grapefruit, white peach and lemon curd combine with notes of toasted hazelnut, flint and spice. The palate is layered and precise with vibrant acidity, concentrated citrus and stone fruit flavours and a mineral finish. The wine has exceptional ageing potential and will continue developing complexity for 15 years or more. It pairs beautifully with lobster, scallops, roast poultry and rich seafood dishes.
