Mulher-Peixe Ring

The Mulher-Peixe Ring by Paola Vilas is inspired by the island of Naoshima, which, before becoming a cultural reference, was a fishing community where the sea dictated the rhythm of life. The ring, a fish-woman sculpture, carries this ancestral memory and inhabits the space between water and land. The figure serves as a reminder that we are nature before construction—bodies shaped by cycles and transformations, capable of changing form without losing our origin, and of existing between worlds. The gold plating is a thin layer over the silver; therefore, contact with surfaces, exposure to chemical elements found in creams and perfumes, as well as the natural pH of the skin, act as polishing agents or reactants on this delicate layer, gradually wearing it away and revealing the silver beneath. Once the gold plating fades, it is possible to replate the piece or clean it to be worn as sterling silver.
