Pin Badge
The Penguin has become a much‑loved LSE character, cheerfully posing in countless graduation photographs whatever the London weather. He is located outside the Library, facing outward, and is a familiar and comforting presence on campus. Made from aluminium and standing just over a metre tall, The Penguin was created by Canadian sculptor Yolanda Vandergaast and gifted to the London School of Economics. The sculpture arrived on campus in 2005 as part of the Odette collection, alongside works such as Equus and Baby Tembo, donated by Canadian alumnus Louis Odette. Odette came to LSE in October 1945 while still serving in the Canadian forces. This charming LSE Penguin makes a delightful keepsake or gift — a proud symbol for any LSE student or alumnus to wear and treasure.
