There are a number of species—and hybrids of these species—and they may go by different common names, including Thanksgiving Cactus, Christmas Cactus, and Crab Cactus. Regardless of the name, Holiday Cacti grow best in medium to bright light. They enjoy being within about 3 to 4 feet of an unobstructed east- or west-facing window. You can supplement with or grow them under plant lights if you don’t have adequate window space. Water as the top half or so of the potting mix dries to the touch. Being epiphytes, they hate overwatering. Provide average household temperatures and average to above-average relative humidity levels. Note: This plant may have some natural degree of toxicity and may cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Additionally, exposure to the sap of this plant may cause discomfort to individuals with a sensitivity to it upon contact. Grown for ornamental purposes and not intended for human or animal consumption.
