Lystella Pine Table Lamp with Cotton Shade, Sweden 1960-70
Beautifully turned from solid Swedish pine, this Lystella table lamp dates to the 1960s & 70s, when Swedish handi-craft was all the rage. Topped with vintage cotton fabric with näversöm detail - who can resist the charm of this perfectly imperfect shade? Not me, it's so great. The fabric is cinched at the top where it fits into the cuts of the wooden dowels just perfectly, creating a soft, irregular form that looks crisp when off, and ultra cozy when lit. Two medium based sockets. Overall 25.5" H x 11" D - base diameter: 5.25" (unmatching pair available, custom shades available upon request) Yngve Ekström (1913–1988) was a Swedish furniture designer, woodcarver, and sculptor whose work helped shape the Scandinavian Modern movement. He began working in a furniture factory at 13 and became best known for the Lamino armchair, designed in 1956, which remains an icon of modern design. His work combined an intuitive understanding of wood with a deep respect for craftsmanship and simple, organic forms. His designs are represented in the collection of the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and the V&A in London.
