This one is a 1973, and it is all original with the exception of the volume potentiometer and the missing tremolo arm. The case is original. The guitar shows some wear, but nothing out of the ordinary. The pickguard has shrunk, as is typical. The frets show some pitting, but the play well and are very useable as-is. The truss rod has room for future neck relief adjustments, if needed. Featuring a 24" scale length, lightweight body, and dual single-coil pickups, this Mustang delivers snappy attack, percussive rhythm tones, and the jangly clarity that made these models favorites in alternative, indie, and surf-inspired genres. The dynamic vibrato system adds expressive movement, while the on/off phase switching for each pickup gives the guitar a wide palette of vintage Fender textures. Historically, the Mustang found new life in the 1990s when artists like Kurt Cobain, Adrian Belew, John Frusciante, and Liz Phair embraced its quirky simplicity and punchy tone. Originally marketed as a student model, it has since become a cult classic cherished for its comfort, unique switching, and unmistakable offset feel. At Mahar’s Vintage Guitars, every instrument is inspected, photographed honestly, and professionally set up.
