Himalayan Short Vest Empress
To survive Himalayan winters, baby yaks grow a soft, insulating undercoat. It's combed out each spring, then local artisans hand-spin it into wool. And that wool becomes this vest. It’s soft without the prickle of sheep’s wool and warm on chilly evenings. Easy to layer, too. Wear it open, or belted at the waist for a fitted silhouette. The embroidery is cut from a silk kira, the traditional temple dress of Bhutanese women. A single kira takes six months to a year to weave on a backstrap loom.
