Look at it from across a room and it shimmers — thousands of tiny brushstrokes of colour packed edge to edge like a mosaic or a wall of torn paper, every shade present at once. Then the black glyphs emerge: bold vertical columns rising through the colour like totems, ladders and lines of calligraphy, one down the centre reading almost like a standing figure. It is the freehand, symbol-rich spirit of a traditional Azilal rug, reimagined as a dense, joyful, contemporary composition. It rewards looking as few rugs do. There is no repeat and no single focal point — just an entire field of small hand-drawn marks, each block of colour meeting the next, held together by the black linework and the cream ground glimpsed between. It is newly hand-knotted in 100% wool by the women artisans we work with in Morocco, hand-spun and hand-dyed using our traditional vat-dyeing process.
