Enterprise Technology Leadership Journal: Fall 2026
The technology leader’s world is being upended. Agentic AI has changed what’s technically possible inside the enterprise faster than almost anyone predicted—and yet a large majority of enterprise AI initiatives are failing to show measurable financial return, even as adoption metrics climb and code ships faster than ever. This issue of the Enterprise Technology Leadership Journal is, in one sense, an attempt to explain that gap. Seven papers, each begun in a room at the Spring 2026 Enterprise Technology Leadership Forum, reach a similar conclusion: the bottleneck was never the model. It is the organization around it—the review processes built for human-paced work, the compliance controls designed without their operating cost in mind, the career ladders that assumed junior engineers would always exist, the decision rights nobody updated when software started acting instead of just running. This issue includes: “Agentic AI and Code Reviews: Toward a Pattern Language for Code Reviews in the Age of Agentic AI” by Zach Davis, Michelle Gill, Elisabeth Hendrickson, Angie Jones, Sha Ma, Randy Shoup, and James Wickett “AI-Driven Organizational Value: A Portfolio of Measures for Turning AI Adoption into Business Results” by Rodo Abad, Jason Cox, Jeff Gallimore, Betty Junod, Tapabrata Pal, Brian Scott, and Max Reele “Deliberate Compliance: A Field Guide to Owning Your IT Controls” by Clare Hawthorne, Ben Grinnell, James Nugent, and Dustin Warner “Raising Seniors: Rethinking How We Grow Engineers in the Age of AI” by Kent Beck, Jondavid Black, Cornelia Davis, Shawn Minto, Dan Neff, Ezra Savard, and Adam Zimman “The Sociotechnical Architecture of AI-Enabled Enterprises: Principles, Patterns, and Practices for Human-Governed AI” by Ian Eslick, Collin Fox, Amanda Graham, Suzette Johnson, Chuck Lafferty, Tom Kilcommons, Rosalind Radcliffe, Cat Swetel, Annie Vella, Sam Yeats, and Robin Yeman “When Agents Decide: Continuous Decision Intelligence and the Substrate Beneath It” by Adrian Cockcroft, Jeremy Eder, Joseph Enochs, Jenn Spykerman, and Brian Wald “When Coding Is Free, Where Is the Bottleneck?: A Guide for Leaders Building Agent-Ready Delivery Systems” by Timothy Cochran, Bryan Finster, Tim Ottersburg, Scott Prugh, and Amy Willard
